Q: I'm more familiar with SLA conferences than Information Today conferences. How does CIL compare with SLA in terms of size, the exhibit hall, etc?
A: Much, much smaller exhibit hall. Maybe a fifth the size (at most). The sessions are much, much larger -- in ballrooms instead of classrooms or meeting rooms. There are fewer attendees at CIL and they come from very different libraries. There will be school media specialists, public library librarians, and special librarians from corporations, law firms, government, and associations.-- Christina Pikas
Q: What's the typical style of dress like for CIL conferences?
A: Eclectic. Some people in suits, some people in jeans. Business casual seems to be the prevailing style, though. Try to wear comfortable shoes (a must for any conference), since you are going to be walking around during the day and perhaps standing during sessions.
I don't know if there is a conference "bag" that is given to everyone, but you might want to have something (a tote bag?) that you can carry stuff around in, especially things you pick up at the exhibit hall.
- There is a bag you get when you register - but it may not be big enough to carry everything you want :)
- Plus, you should do something to personalize it since everybody's bag looks exactly the same!
Q: Any special advice for jobseekers?
A: There is usually a bulletin board in the conference registration area and often there are job postings there. Jane Dysart, CIL Conference Chair
Q: Tagging blog posts? 'cil06' as the tag, everyone?
A: According to Nancy Garman at Information Today, the tag is going to be CIL2006.
Q: Will there be free wireless at the conference? Like there was at IL05?
A: Keep an eye on the Wifi page as information about wireless will be placed on that page.
Q: Is there a list of CyberTours? I see people mentioning that they're hosting them, but I can't find a schedule.
A: I believe they will be up on the Info Today Web site soon. I'll link to them as soon as they're there.
A2: The official page is available: Free Cyber Tours
