DC Tips

1. If you're flying in, go for the Reagan national Airport - then take the subway to DuPont Circle... then walk up the hill to the conference hotel...

Easy as pie, no taxis or buses to worry about, and it's cheap, too. --Dave King

For the record, you'll want to pick up the Yellow Line toward Mt. Vernon Square, then change to the Red Line toward Shady Grove at Gallery Place. Three stops later, you're at Dupont Circle. Metro system map here. -DSalo

2. If you're local and driving in from Maryland or Virginia -- you'll need a SmartTrip card to get out of the parking lot. You buy one card and use it for fares and parking. It's an RFID thing so you kind of hold it over the white circle (watch what everyone else does). You can buy it in advance online or in a station. The card has a $5 so keep it for next time. You can use a credit card at the metro station at specific machines. -- Christina Pikas

3. If you're flying to Dulles, the cheapest way to get into town is to pick up the Washington Flyer bus to West Falls Church station on the Metro Orange Line. Take the Orange Line toward New Carrollton, then switch at Metro Center to the Red Line toward Shady Grove. Three stops to Dupont Circle, four blocks from the conference hotel. -DSalo

4. If you are riding the Metro subway this week, a note of caution. The Metro stops service promptly at midnight, Sunday through Thursday, and 2 or 3am (not sure which) on Friday and Saturday nights. We got caught in Chinatown watching the Texas/West Virginia basketball game at ESPN Zone and had to take a cab back to the hotel. Live and learn! -- JSumpter
